MARKET UPDATE | February 2, 2026

Stocks edged higher in the week ending last Friday as the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to close at 6,939.03, extending its January gain to 1.4%. The benchmark finished just below its recent record close of 6,978.60 and briefly touched a new intraday high above 7,000 earlier in the week, underscoring continued resilience despite a modest advance. Trading was driven largely by quarterly earnings. Companies including Sandisk and Visa reported better-than-expected results, while Tractor Supply was among those that fell short of forecasts. In Washington, President Donald Trump nominated former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh to lead the central bank.
